What a great dog - the Airedale Terrier, historically called the’King of Terriers’, is a middleweight dog that averages 45 to sixty five lbs and grows to lengths of twenty-four inches. They are the biggest of the terrier breeds, but are as alert and energetic as their smaller relatives.

Airedale Terriers likely have tan heads, ears, chests, undersides, and legs. Their sides and saddles are black. A few Airedale Terriers have a little bit of red mixed together with their white or black chest markings. Because of the thickness of their coats, Airedale Terriers will need regular bathing and brushing.

This breed of dog is very active, and will want to play and be exercised on a daily basis. Nonetheless it is preferable if the terrier lives with a family with older and well-behaved youngsters. A family with smaller pets,eg cats or guinea pigs, should likely avoid getting an Airedale Terrier, since terriers are susceptible to chase tiny pets and so on. They can live alongside other dogs, as long as they are trained from puppyhood. Coaching itself is not a problem. These terriers are frolicsome and eager to learn, as well as loyal and protecting of their family.

The dog first appeared in England, sometime in the 18th century. It was crossbred from a Waterside Terrier and an Otterhound. They were originally used to hunt small game, and then progressed to big-game hunting and police work. Although the breed has been usually’retired’ from such heavy work, they retain their staying power and persistence, and remain good trackers and hunters.

Homes that like to do exercises outdoors are perfect for the Airedale Terrier. It can live with other pets, or be fine by itself. With its seemingly boundless energy, it’s only an issue of finding a family that may keep up with this fine dog.
