Me and my wife just recently bought a soda machine and added it to her offices break room. It was a big purchase for us but my wife says her office drinks a ton of soda and bottled water and there are not any convenience stores within walking distance (so people bring their own but she thinks we can sell them a lot, cause people forget or run out!) We do really well on the bottled water, I buy it from the store and stock the machine once a week. So far it’s going really good, once I have made enough to cover the cost of the soda machine we are considering buying a machine that vends potato chips and other snacks. Her work is more than happy to take a percentage of my profits in exchange for looking after the vending machines, they are inside the break room so I really don’t have to worry about them getting stolen or vandalized.
My wife even keeps some quarters at her desk during the day and acts as a change machine! Eventually it would be nice to upgrade the machine so it accepts dollar bills but the mechanical drink machine was pretty cheap so that’s what we bought for our first machine. I was thinking I could expand into some of the other offices around her work since I would already be in the area to stock her soda machine. I am hoping that these vending machines start to make me some good money as I am retiring and will still need some extra cash. the hardest part of vending is finding the right location that gets lots of foot traffic and finding a place that is protected so the machine doesn’t get trashed. We are even thinking about placing a few gumball machines in the local stores around our house.
